Our Story

Hi, I’m Stella, founder of Zen Premium Tea.

My love for Japanese tea started long before I ever dreamed of starting a tea business. From the very first cup, I was drawn to more than just the taste. I fell in love with the quiet ritual of making tea, the sense of calm it brings, and the incredible care and craftsmanship that goes into every leaf.

Over time, tea became part of my daily life. Whether I was starting a busy morning or taking a quiet break in the afternoon, making a cup of matcha became a small moment to slow down and reconnect.

As I shared my favourite teas with friends and family, I realized how difficult it was to find authentic, high-quality Japanese matcha at a fair price in Canada. That’s what inspired me to create Zen Premium Tea.

My goal has always been simple: to share the tea I genuinely love drinking every day and make it easier for others to enjoy exceptional Japanese matcha without paying a premium. Every tea I offer is one I would happily serve in my own home, and I hope it brings you the same comfort, balance and joy that it brings me!

We source our matcha and hojicha directly from some of Japan’s most renowned tea-growing regions.

Yame, Fukuoka: Nestled in the mountains of Kyushu, Yame is famed for producing some of Japan’s most refined gyokuro and matcha. Its misty climate, mineral-rich soil, and generations of expertise result in teas with exceptional depth and natural sweetness.

Uji, Kyoto: Widely regarded as the birthplace of Japanese matcha, Uji is synonymous with prestige and tradition. Matcha from Uji is known for its vibrant color, smooth umami, and beautifully balanced flavor.

Kagoshima: Located at the southern tip of Japan, Kagoshima is celebrated for its innovative farming techniques and fertile volcanic soil. The result is fresh, bright matcha with a clean, modern profile.

Kaga, Ishikawa: A historic region deeply rooted in Japanese tea culture, Kaga is known for its distinctive hojicha and carefully crafted teas.

By working directly with farmers in these regions, we ensure every product meets our uncompromising standards, while supporting the people behind the craft.

We believe the best tea is made the old way. That's why we prioritize teas produced using traditional stone-grinding methods and harvested during the prized spring season, when tea leaves are at their most vibrant and nutrient-rich.

Every order is packaged and shipped by hand from our small operation in Burnaby, BC. We're a small Canadian business and we think that's something to be proud of!
